Radio Gagarin*
04:23
|
|
||
Verse:
Spring / 1961 / Gagarin / chosen as the one
He climbs / into the Vostok 1 / which climbs / into the sky and then its gone
And I want to know / what its like to boldly go / up into the heavens / where no human has been present
Watching / a distant Baikonaur / and every / one you know grow small
One minute / your looking at the Kazakh lands / the next / you're the pinnacle of man
what are u seeing up there? / what are you feeling up there? / whats it like being up there? / I'd like to know
Chorus:
So Radio Gagarin and ask him what its like soaring
Up above the skies / in a satellite / looking down at human life
It must feel so ace / flying through space / being looked up at by the human race

Arsenic Baby
03:47
|
|
||
Verse:
In sediment from California's Mono Lake / an experiment took place / which changed / how we see cellular machinery
Phosphates were replaced / with arsenates an equivalent base / the GFAJ-1 microbe strain / survived
It should have died
But this one lived...
Arsenic should be poison / Harbinger of cellular destruction / attracting sulphates groups / and messing up molecule routes
The cell is fooled into thinking / its one of the six molecules it should be drinking / a phosphourous double / leading to trouble
Let's, get, one thing straight / It's still carbon based / just like birds and bees / and the boys and girls
Its full of amino acids / that don't exist / in organic masses / found across the rest of the world
Chorus:
It's life, Jim, not as we know with
With arsenic, which nothing else copes with
made
from a microbe strain
A form, that's, been theorized
Has now, been, made alive
brand new
cellular take

Mendel

You grew up on the family farm
Moved to a monastery with an experimental garden
Six years of wrapping bags around the flowers of plants
Giving us the music for the genetic dance
You analysed traits of the plants that give us peas
Then controlled how they got to breed
You then analysed the plants that grew from the seeds
Eventually proposing living things had genes
Growing 29000 plants was not the only trick
You still had to perform some Mendel arithmetic
Probabilities of hybrids, dominant and recessive traits
Giving us genetics and showing us the way
You must be Mendel Mendel Mendel Mendel yeah oh yeah
Its a shame they didn't believe / in the theory you got from you plants
It was only after you died / that they gave the peas a chance
