lyrics

When Darwin found a monkey bone
It reminded him of Auntie Joan
And he wondered if it just could be
That apes are related to you and me....

The tree of life throws its branches wide
But the ancient patterns Darwin spied
No one had ever thought before we're
All descended from a common ancestor.
Cause genes mutate and vary traits
In populations that replicate
Only those that make you stronger or more sexy
Are passed down to your progeny.

Yes, Darwin found a monkey bone
It reminded him of Auntie Joan
And he wondered if it just could be
That apes are related to you and me....

Darwin's fossil record had a gap
Some strange, pre-Cambrian mishap
Evolutionary theory was open wide
To opposition from the creationist side.
Perplexed poor Darwin died unwise.
'Twas the 1950s, through schoolgirls eyes
When the missing link of life was found
Ediacaran fossil in quarried ground.

Yes, Darwin found a monkey bone
It reminded him of Auntie Joan
And he wondered if it just could be
That apes are related to you and me....

Dee dee dee dee dee dee dee
Yes apes are quite like you and me
We're from the same old family tree
And Darwin was the one to see...
